Connor completes volunteer training at Bury Society for Blind and Partially Sighted People

21 February 2012

Project Manager Natalie has helped Connor, who is registered blind, find a suitable volunteer placement with Bury Society for the Blind and Partially Sighted People.  Eager to use his own experiences to help others, Connor, shown here with Volunteer Coordinator Jane Deakin after completing the volunteer training with the Society, will be helping with regular fundraising events and helping to maintain the Society’s Facebook pages as well as helping out at the resource centre when necessary.  He said,  ‘I am particularly keen to get cracking on the Facebook pages as soon as possible as I’m quite handy on computers and the Society has all the necessary software to enable me to edit the pages with ease’.  Natalie works exclusively within Action for Children projects in North West England to support disadvantaged young people and their families, and met Connor at The Extra Mile project in Bury.  Natalie said, ‘I have been working with Connor for several months and it has been tricky to find something which is both suitable for Connor and exciting enough to please him, so I am really pleased to see him trained up and ready to volunteer with the Society!’  The Bury Society for Blind and Partially Sighted People’s next fundraising event will be a Mother’s Day gift-wrapping at the Mill Gate Shopping Centre in Bury on Friday 16th March where Connor (accompanied for this initial event by Natalie) will be trying their hand at some luxury gift-wrapping in aid of the Society.
