From Dumfriesshire to Spain: Pueblo Ingles English teaching project
02 February 2012
Scotland Project Manager Sue Munday helped Wallace Hall Academy student Charlotte Clark teach English in Spain this past summer. Read about Charlotte’s experiences.
'Following the talk at my school from WWV, I was inspired to experience some of the fantastic volunteering opportunities available myself. The Pueblo Ingles ‘teach English to Spaniards’ programme was the option I chose to start off a wonderful journey of international volunteering. It was my job to talk with and correct any Spanish teenagers with their English language. We played games, had one-to-one’s, had evening meetings and in general just had loads of fun whilst talking in English as much as possible! By the end of the programme, I had made a great number of new friends and learned a lot about them and their country. They felt that they had been taught well this way as their confidence in speaking English to begin with needed improved. Not only did my role as a volunteer help others, I also learned a lot of new skills. I became more confident, a better team-worker, learned new sports and games, learned a lot about the country and people, and it all looks great on my CV! I would definitely encourage anyone to try out this amazing experience. Volunteering isn’t just about helping others, although it benefits others, it also benefits you. I really felt like I made a difference, it’s such a great feeling to help other people, and I will definitely volunteer again'.
