Mature volunteer wins university place

Mary had a very festive Christmas Holiday volunteering with The Children’s Foundation Gift Wrapping in Eldon Square as well at the Cyrenian’s Charity Shop. Mary, who met Roz Middleton, VPM for the North East, at the Newcastle Employability Skills short course at Newcastle College, has now managed to complete over 25 hours of volunteer work for a WWV Bronze Certificate.

Roz said, ‘I am really pleased for Mary, she is a fantastic volunteer and despite having a great deal of family responsibilities and being the only member of her family to speak English, is working towards her goals methodically and with enthusiasm. Earning her Bronze Certificate in such a short space of time is an amazing achievement!’
 
Since the holidays, Mary has begun volunteering on the shop floor at Cyrenians Thrift Boutique alongside her mother.  She has also recently been accepted to study Human Biosciences at Northumbria University – congratulations Mary!
